Two weeks ago we had the pleasure of attending the fairy tale wedding of one of my best friends in the gorgeous state of New Hampshire. I have known Jenni for eleven years (what?! how time flies!!!), as we went through the both the same undergraduate and graduate programs, led space and physics related student organizations together, battled through homework sets side-by-side, and even roomed together. Jenni and her husband J met seven years ago, but because J’s budding career in the Air Force relocates him every few years and Jenni’s burgeoning career in space physics was locationally locked (there are limited areas within the U.S. where one can study space physics), the couple has journeyed through a long distance relationship until now. As such, their wedding day held a special sweetness that can only come from knowing that such wonderful people have fought to maintain and to build their relationship through whatever life threw at them—including seven years of living apart.
To encourage anyone else fighting for love in a long distance relationship, I thought I would ask Jenni about how she and J managed to beat the odds together.
